The Art of Jewish Caregiving
The Art of Jewish Caregiving is a unique
program designed to educate health care professionals and
caregivers about the diversity of the Jewish culture, customs,
rituals and traditions. To truly enhance healing and well-being
at a critical time in a person's life, a caregiver must touch a
person’s spirit and soul. To do so requires respect,
understanding and education. The Art of Jewish Caregiving will
assist you in caring for and promoting the complete quality of
life for a Jewish individual.

Exceptional care is more than simply providing clinical services.
As health care professionals and caregivers, we all strive to respect
and respond to the religious and cultural needs of the individuals in our
care. This challenge is difficult when a caregiver is unfamiliar with the
religious and cultural requirements of a specific religion or culture.
The Art of Jewish Caregiving Video Series is an invaluable tool for
hospitals, health care facilities, Jewish communal agencies, hospice
and home health agencies serving Jewish individuals. This highly
informative video series has been developed in 5 segments to allow for
easy viewing during an orientation or in-service.
A needed and necessary enhancement to enrich any health care
environment.
The Art of Jewish Caregiving video series addresses the great diversity
in beliefs, customs and observances among Jewish individuals while
providing information regarding the needs of Jewish individuals. Take the
opportunity to enrich and enhance the lives of every Jewish individual in
your care.

Home and Aging Services, 6710 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48322

The Jewish Home & Aging Services offers a one-day retreat every
Fall for health care professionals. Recognizing, respecting and
maintaining religious and cultural sensitivity in a health care facility
is a challenge, we all strive to meet. Spend a day with us broadening your
horizons and developing the understanding needed to enhance the spiritual
and cultural needs of the Jewish individual in your care. This one-day
retreat is designed to address the unique needs of Jewish older adults in
the hospital setting or living in a care facility.
The topics addressed include: The Diversity of the Jewish Culture, the
Jewish Sabbath, Jewish Holidays, Jewish Dietary Needs, Jewish
Customs and Traditions Related to Death and Dying, and Nourishing the
Jewish Soul. A panel discussion explores successful techniques to address
the emotional, spiritual and dietary needs of Jewish older adults. The
remainder of the day focuses on learning to recognize and meet the special
needs of the Holocaust survivor. Following a guided tour of the Holocaust
Memorial Center, a Holocaust survivor will share her personal story and a
clinical psychologist will discuss issues unique to Holocaust survivors in
a health care setting.
